College of Science Secures Multiple Honours at KNUST Research Excellence Awards

The College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) recorded a remarkable performance at the University's 2nd Research Excellence Awards, with its researchers, students and project teams earning recognition across several prestigious categories

The awards ceremony formed part of activities marking KNUST's Research Week and sought to recognize individuals, teams and institutions whose work is advancing knowledge, innovation and societal impact.

Among the headline winners was Dr. Cyril D. Boateng, who was adjudged Early Career Researcher of the Year in recognition of his outstanding research contributions. The award celebrates emerging researchers whose scholarly work demonstrates significant promise and impact.

The RAPiDVBP Project, led by Prof. Kingsley Badu and his team, won the Innovative Award and the Transdisciplinary Research Award, underscoring the project's contribution to cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

In the research conference segment of the awards, College of Science students and researchers secured several distinctions. Alice Bagyiereyele Lakyiere of the Department of Computer Science won the Best Oral Presentation Award, while Dr. Joseph Bentil of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology placed second. Lakyiere also earned third place in the same category.

The Department of Chemistry dominated the Best Poster Presentation category, with Samuel Kofi Yeboah taking first place, Anne Atuabea Amoako placing second, and Belinda Akuamoah securing third.

The College of Science further distinguished itself in the exhibition component of the Research Week activities securing the Best College Exhibition, finishing ahead of the College of Art and Built Environment and the College of Engineering.

The multiple awards highlight the College's growing research profile and its commitment to excellence in scientific discovery, innovation, student mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The recognition also reflects KNUST's broader effort to celebrate research that generates impact, addresses societal challenges and contributes to national and global development.
