Provost of the College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Phillip Antwi-Agyei has held an engagement with student leaders as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the College leadership and students.
The engagement brought together departmental executives, faculty representatives and year group leaders to discuss issues affecting students and explore practical ways of improving student welfare and academic life within the College.
It also forms part of the College of Science’s broader efforts to promote student-centered leadership, improve communication and foster a supportive academic environment for students.

Key concerns raised by the student leaders included internet connectivity challenges, maintenance of lecture halls and washrooms, increased student involvement in research activities and publications, and support for student leadership initiatives.
The student leaders also raised concerns about the increasing student population and the limited size of some lecture rooms, noting that overcrowding in lecture spaces affects teaching and learning.
They further appealed for recognition of year group leaders and departmental executives through certificates and other forms of appreciation for their service and contributions to the College community.

Speaking during the engagement, Prof. Antwi-Agyei reaffirmed the College’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for teaching, learning and student development.
He encouraged the student leaders to continue serving as an effective bridge between students and the College leadership by promptly communicating concerns and proposing solutions to challenges confronting students.
Prof. Antwi-Agyei further stressed the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining facilities within the College, particularly washrooms and lecture spaces, urging students to cultivate a culture of proper usage and maintenance of public facilities.

He noted that while some concerns could be addressed immediately, others would require long-term planning and resource mobilization.
The Provost assured the student leaders that the College remains committed to continuously engaging students and responding to their needs to enhance the overall student experience.
