‘Impressions’ Launched in Honour of Professor (Mrs.) Ibok Nsa Oduro’s Enduring Impact on Academia and Mentorship

Professor (Mrs.) Ibok Nsa Oduro, the first female Provost of the College of Science, has been honoured with the launch of a commemorative book celebrating her life, leadership and enduring impact on academia, mentorship and society.

Titled Impressions: Firsthand Stories and Letters Honouring Professor Mrs. Ibok Oduro's Enduring Impact, the publication was compiled and edited by Mrs. Abigail Kwarteng and features a foreword by former KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis.

The book launch brought together university leaders, faculty, staff, students, alumni, family members, church associates, friends and well-wishers to celebrate the distinguished academic and trailblazing leader.

Through 63 personal stories and letters, Impressions chronicles the influence Professor Oduro has had on the lives of students, colleagues, family members and associates over the course of her distinguished career.

The contributions highlight her role as a mentor, woman of faith, educator and leader whose impact has transcended generations and geographical boundaries.

Goodwill messages from various groups, institutions, professional bodies and individuals formed a key part of the event, with speakers paying tribute to Professor Oduro's unwavering commitment to excellence, service and human development.

Many described her as a mentor and role model whose guidance and support had shaped their academic, professional and personal journeys.

The publication captures more than achievements and titles. Through heartfelt testimonies, contributors recount experiences of encouragement, mentorship, compassion and faith, offering a portrait of a woman whose greatest legacy lies in the lives she has touched.

From former students and academic colleagues to family members and church associates, the stories reveal a consistent theme of selfless service and genuine care for others.

The book also presents Professor Oduro as an academic mentor, a woman of strong Christian faith and a builder of legacy. Contributors from Ghana and across the diaspora share reflections that demonstrate how her influence has extended beyond classrooms, laboratories and administrative offices to inspire individuals across generations and continents.

Professor Oduro joined KNUST in 1996 and rose through the academic ranks to become a full professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology. Throughout her career, she has distinguished herself as a researcher, educator and administrator, making significant contributions to teaching, research and student development.

Her leadership journey at KNUST saw her serve in several strategic roles, including Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences, Vice Dean of Students and Vice Dean for International Student Affairs. She later made history as the first female Provost of the College of Science, paving the way for greater female representation in academic leadership.

Beyond the University, Professor Oduro has devoted her time and expertise to mentorship, youth development and community service, earning admiration from colleagues, students and professional peers alike.

The launch of Impressions challenges readers to consider the impact of their own lives and the legacy they hope to leave behind.
