KNUST College of Science Hosts Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Training for Police Officers

In a proactive move to enhance the capabilities of local law enforcement, the College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) organised a two-day intensive training program on cybersecurity and digital forensics for police officers from the Oforikrom Municipality at the Department of Computer Science lab. The training aimed to equip the officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle cybercrime and digital threats effectively.

During the workshop's opening, Mr Anthony Agyapong, the Registrar of the College of Science, emphasised the vital role that police officers play in ensuring the safety and orderliness of the KNUST community. He stated, "Police officers are an invaluable asset to the KNUST community. Their presence and vigilance help maintain a safe environment conducive to learning and innovation. By organising this workshop, we express our gratitude and commitment to supporting their continuous professional growth. Without police officers, the world would be in chaos."

The commander in charge of the police unit at KNUST expressed his most profound appreciation to the College of Science for organising the training. He remarked, "This initiative by the College of Science is commendable and greatly appreciated. The knowledge and skills we acquire from this workshop will be invaluable in our efforts to combat cybercrime and enhance security within the KNUST community and beyond. I urge my fellow officers to apply the insights gained here for the betterment of our community."

The workshop covered various aspects of cybersecurity and digital forensics, including:

Basics of cybersecurity and its importance in the digital age.

Understanding and analysing digital evidence in criminal investigations.

Practical exercises and simulations to reinforce theoretical knowledge.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions, hands-on exercises, and discussions led by experts from the Department of Computer Science. The training not only aimed to enhance their technical skills but also to foster a deeper understanding of the evolving nature of cyber threats and the importance of digital forensics in modern law enforcement.
