SCISA Organizes Free Eye Screening Exercise for Students

SCisa

The Science Students’ Association (SCISA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) successfully organized a free eye screening exercise on Friday, 7th February 2025 in front of the Allotey Auditorium, College of Science. This initiative, designed to promote eye health and early detection of vision problems, received an overwhelming response from both students and staff.

Recognizing the importance of good vision in academic success, SCISA collaborated with professional optometrists to provide comprehensive eye screenings. Participants underwent vision assessments, intraocular pressure checks, and expert consultations on common eye conditions such as refractive errors, dry eye syndrome, and early signs of glaucoma.

Students and staff who required further medical attention were given referrals and professional guidance on the next steps for specialized treatment. This ensured that those with undiagnosed eye conditions received the necessary intervention before their vision deteriorated further.

The initiative was met with widespread appreciation from students, many of whom had never undergone a formal eye examination. One participant expressed his gratitude, stating, “I didn’t realize I had vision issues until today. This screening has been an eye-opener, and I am truly grateful to SCISA for organizing it.”

Several students echoed similar sentiments, highlighting how the program helped them become more aware of their eye health and the need for routine check-ups.

SCISA’s Dedication to Student Health and Academic Excellence

SCISA extends its sincere appreciation to the College of Science administration, the medical team, and all individuals and organizations that contributed to the success of this impactful initiative.

The association remains committed to implementing more health-focused programs that enhance the academic experience and overall well-being of students. With initiatives like these, SCISA continues to foster a culture of health consciousness, preventive care, and academic excellence within the university community.
