The 44th executives of the Science Students Association (SCISA) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi have paid a courtesy visit to the Provost of the College of Science, Prof. Philip Antwi Agyei, who urged them to lead with unity, transparency and accountability.

Addressing the student leaders, Prof. Antwi Agyei said effective leadership within the association must be anchored in teamwork and openness.

“Be united and committed. My message to you is unity and transparency. Unity comes when there is transparency,” he said. “Talk to each other because you are already a team. Work together as a team.”

He reminded the executives that their actions were under scrutiny and called on them to remain accountable in the discharge of their duties.

“They are watching you, so be accountable,” he said, cautioning against favouritism among colleagues. He encouraged the leaders to build inclusive relationships by bringing everyone together, regardless of political affiliation or religious background.

The provost also assured SCISA of the College’s support for its activities.

The Registrar of the College, Mrs Vanessa Appiah Castel, echoed the call for teamwork, stressing the long-term value of strong relationships built during student leadership.

“If you work well as a team, after school you remain friends. But if there are frictions, after school you may not want to see each other,” she said. “Stay together, work together. Share your joy, share your pain, and move on.”

Faculty members Dr. John-Lewis Zinia Zaukuu and Dr. Joahua Kiddy Kwasi Asamoah also assured the association’s leadership of continued faculty support.

Responding on behalf of the association, the SCISA President, Master Nana Agyekum Boateng described the meeting as an honour and said the advice on transparency and teamwork resonated strongly with the student leadership.

“It is an honour to stand before you today, especially representing over 15,000 students,” he said. “The message about working together as a team and making transparency prevail is key. Going forward, we will make sure everything we do reflects the trust and opportunity you have given us.”

Other members of the SCISA executive also pledged their commitment to the guidance offered by management.

SCISA serves as the umbrella body for all students in the College of Science. The association aims to unite students across departments, promote interest in science through seminars and publications, support members’ academic progress, and organise exchange programmes with local and international partner institutions.
