KNUST Photonics Chapter Illuminates Tamale with Light and Learning

The Department of Physics, KNUST, is proud to highlight the successful outreach program organized by the KNUST Photonics Student Chapter in Tamale, in celebration of this year’s International Day of Light. The event brought together high school students from the region for a day of scientific exploration, interactive learning, and inspiration in the field of optics and photonics.

The program began with an inspiring keynote address by Prof. Akwasi Acheampong Aning, who introduced the students to the fundamental principles of physics and its pivotal role in understanding the natural world. His engaging presentation set the stage for a day filled with discovery and hands-on learning.

Akyana Britwum, a representative of the chapter, followed with an insightful presentation on photonics, emphasizing its transformative applications across industries—from telecommunications to healthcare. He also outlined the chapter’s mission to foster scientific curiosity and bring cutting-edge photonics education to students in northern Ghana.
