The College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has marked a proud moment as six of its researchers were inducted into the Ghana Young Academy (GhYA) during the Academy’s 9th induction ceremony held on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra.
Out of 23 early- to mid-career researchers inducted from across the country, the College of Science accounted for the largest representation from KNUST, highlighting its leadership in research and innovation.
The newly inducted academicians from the College include Dr. Isaac Amoah and Dr. Seth Domfeh from Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Dr. John-Lewis Zinia Zaukuu and Dr. Nana Baah Pepra-Ameyaw from Food Science and Technology, Dr. David O. Nartey from Environmental Science, and Dr. Akyana Britwum from Physics.
They were joined by Dr. Eric Kojo Nsa Oduro from the University Hospital, bringing KNUST’s total representation to seven.
Senior faculty members from the College of Science, including Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo, Dr. David Azanu, Dr. Cyril Boateng, and Prof. Jacob K. Agbenorhevi, were present to support the inductees, reflecting the College’s commitment to mentoring young scientists and fostering a strong research culture.
The inductees were also encouraged to pursue research that not only advances knowledge but also creates meaningful impact for national development and improves the lives of Ghanaians.
The Ghana Young Academy, established in 2014 as the youth wing of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences with support from the Royal Society and Pfizer, was created to strengthen collaboration between young and senior scientists in Ghana.
It brings together talented researchers to develop innovative solutions to national and international challenges, promote careers in science, technology, innovation, and mathematics, and provide a platform for young scientists to contribute to policy discussions and public debate.
The strong representation of the College of Science at the induction ceremony underscores its role as a hub for research excellence, innovation, and national impact, inspiring the next generation of Ghanaian scientists.
