New Leadership, Same Vision” – Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen the College of Science

Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei, the newly appointed Provost of the College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the College’s shared vision of producing high-calibre science graduates to drive Ghana and Africa’s industrial and economic transformation.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony for Principal Officers of the College, Professor Antwi-Agyei emphasized that his leadership would build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor while fostering an environment that promotes innovation, excellence, and collaboration.

“This is not just a change in leadership but a continuation of our shared vision to build a stronger and more vibrant College of Science. It is not only a transition but also a celebration of the College’s collective commitment to academic excellence,” he said.

Outlining his vision for the College, he added, “My goal is to strengthen academic excellence, promote innovation in teaching and learning, and enhance research and community engagement.”

The ceremony marked a symbolic renewal of dedication and purpose as the new team officially assumed office.

Outgoing Provost, Professor Leonard Kofitse Amekudzi, reflected on his tenure, highlighting key milestones and expressing confidence in the incoming leadership.

“As I symbolically hand over the mantle today, I do so with complete confidence and a joyful heart,” he said. “I believe that the same spirit of diligence, humility, and excellence that has guided me will rest upon the new leadership in double measure.”

Professor Amekudzi noted that his administration leaves behind not just memories, but a “clear roadmap for sustained growth,” and expressed optimism about the future of the College under its new leadership.

Dr. Richard Bruce Lamptey, the outgoing College Librarian, described his service to the College as one of the most fulfilling periods of his professional journey.

“Through teamwork and innovation, we have strengthened digital access, enhanced services to faculty and students, and built meaningful collaborations across departments,” he said.

Outgoing Counsellor, Mrs. Bernice Ofosuhene Peasah, expressed appreciation to management and colleagues for their support throughout her tenure. She also expressed confidence in her successor, Rabbi Darko, describing him as a dedicated and experienced professional.

Mrs. Catherine Acquah, the outgoing Finance Officer, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, noting with pride that her tenure recorded no financial irregularities.

She encouraged her successor, Dr. James Gambrah, to continue upholding transparency and accountability, and assured him of her continuous support whenever needed.

Both the incoming and outgoing Deans, Vice Deans, and other officials of the College congratulated the new leadership team and urged them to sustain and build on the progress made by the previous administration.
