The HepatoRenal Research Group of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology has conducted a two-day community health screening exercise for members of the Mount Olivet Methodist Church, Ayeduase, and its circuit, as part of efforts to promote preventive healthcare and strengthen community engagement.

The initiative forms part of the group’s efforts to strengthen community engagement and promote healthy living.

The exercise was spearheaded by Professor Christopher Larbie, who led a team of researchers and health professionals from the Department.

Church members were screened for key health indicators, including body composition, blood pressure, dietary habits, blood glucose levels, haemoglobin and anaemia status, as well as stress levels conditions often linked to non-communicable diseases.

The exercise also offered participants the chance to receive on-the-spot guidance. A Nutritionist and Dietitian who accompanied the team provided personalised nutritional counselling based on individual body composition results, helping participants better understand their health status and make informed lifestyle choices.

In all, 85 members of the church and wider circuit took part in the screening.

According to Professor Larbie, the exercise is part of the group’s commitment to translating academic research into practical community impact, while contributing to early detection and prevention of chronic health conditions.

The HepatoRenal Group expressed gratitude to the Superintendent Minister and members of the Mount Olivet Methodist Church Circuit for their support and cooperation. The health screening exercise was fully sponsored by the research team.
