Dr. Lord Jephthah Joojo Gowans from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, has been honoured with the prestigious 2023 IADR Smile Train Cleft Research Award, as announced by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). The award ceremony took place during the Opening Ceremonies of the 101st General Session of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 9th Meeting of the Latin American Region and the 12th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry in Bogotá, Colombia, on June 21, 2023.
The award, amounting to $75,000, is a grant to facilitate Gowans' pursuit of innovative and novel research addressing the oral health needs of children with clefts. This generous funding will enable him to further his investigations and contribute to improving oral health and overall quality of life for children affected by clefts.
The IADR Smile Train Cleft Research Award, jointly sponsored by the IADR and Smile Train, the world's largest cleft-focused organization, aims to support investigators in producing cleft-related research that can be translated into clinical practice.
