Dr. Winifred Atiah, KNUST alumna, has been awarded a two-year fellowship with the GCRF-African SWIFT programme. Her research focuses on improving flood forecasting and early warning systems in Ghana, helping reduce death tolls from extreme weather events.
As a feat among her colleagues, Winifred Atiah was awarded the best student in the Meteorology and Climate Science programme of the Department of Physics at KNUST and also the first student to obtain a First Class Honours degree since the programme’s inception in 2008.
She obtained her Masters in Mathematical Sciences at the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS-Senegal) and a PhD with KNUST under the DACCIWA project. Winifred also did part of her research studies at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology, sponsored by the Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World.
Dr. Winifred Atiah was a former student and mentee of Professor Leonard K. Amekudzi (Provost, College of Science-KNUST).
