College of Science Organize one day Intensive Workshop for Administrators and Technicians of the College

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology's College of Science organized a highly anticipated workshop on the 10th of May, 2023, targeting senior assistant administrators, technicians, and the College's finance office. The primary objective of this event, aptly titled "Capacity Building for Higher Qualitivity," was to enhance the participants' skills in essential areas such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), customer service, and research, among other vital areas.

During the welcome address, Prof. Leonard K Amekudzi, the esteemed provost of the College, expressed his sincere appreciation for the commencement of this program, which holds tremendous potential to enhance the overall capacity of the college staff. Prof. Amekudzi highlighted the alignment between the program's goals and the vision of the vice-chancellor, which focuses on providing improved welfare for staff and fostering continuous professional development. He stressed the critical importance of staff training in today's rapidly advancing technological landscape, illustrating this with a poignant example. He reminisced about the bygone era when administrators used typewriters to perform administrative duties. However, in the present day, every office is equipped with computers to facilitate these tasks.

Prof. Amekudzi candidly acknowledged the need for training to adapt to these technological advancements and underscored the significance of training staff in various relevant areas, including modern computer software. In his address, Prof. Amekudzi also emphasized the vital role played by technicians in the laboratory section. He acknowledged that the nature of their services and the areas in which they contribute to progress have evolved significantly compared to previous years. This acknowledgement demonstrated the importance of equipping technicians with the necessary knowledge and skills to keep pace with the ever-changing scientific landscape.

During the event's closing remarks, Mr Anthony Adjapong, the esteemed College Registrar, emphasized that this workshop was merely the beginning, as much work still needed to be done. Mr Adjapong noted the need for technicians to acquire the knowledge and skills required to serve the students as better stewards. He underlined the significance of understanding the nature of students and encouraged a more nuanced approach to interacting with them. Mr Adjapong specifically addressed the issue of recalcitrant students, urging staff members to utilize their expertise to transform these challenging individuals into responsible citizens.

He further emphasized that every staff member's core responsibility is to leverage their skills and expertise to guide and mentor students, as with them, the staff's work would hold more meaning. He commended the participants for their remarkable engagement and participation throughout the workshop. This workshop was pivotal in the College of Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
