The College of Science (CoS) organized a Seminar and Celebration of Professor Aboagye Menyeh @70th Birthday Anniversary on 9th March 2022 at the Allotey Auditorium, KNUST.
In attendance were the Provost-CoS, Prof. Leonard K. Amekudzi, the College Registrar, Mr Kwame Yeboah jr, the President of Ghana Science Association (GSA) Kumasi Branch, Dr. Jacob K. Agbenorhevi, Heads of Departments, Senior members, Staff and students of the CoS and other colleges.
Three Senior Members/PhD Researchers gave seminar presentations on their research works.
Mr. Collins Afriyie Appiah presented on “The effects of Bridelia tea consumption on oxidative status of people with type 2 diabetes”.
Mr. Isaac Nkrumah presented on “The synthesis and characterisation of PbSns thin films deposited by electrodeposition technique for photovoltaic applications”.
Mr Reginald Mensah Noye presented on “The integrated geophysical and GIS techniques in mapping potential Groundwater zones in the Owabi Catchment to promote Climate Smart Agriculture”.
Each presentation was followed with interactions/questions and answers.
The seminar presentations were climaxed with the celebration of the 70th Birthday Anniversary of Prof. Aboagye Menyeh, the Pioneer Provost of the CoS-KNUST.
Prof. Aboagye Menyeh is a Professor in the Department of Physics. He also happened to be the Founding Editor of the Journal of Ghana Science Association (GSA), Former National President and currently Patron of GSA.
The Provost, Prof. Leonard K. Amekudzi gave his welcome address and stated that, he woke up really excited and thrilled knowing it’s the birthday of the First Provost through whose efforts led to the establishment of the CoS. He continued and indicated that he was wearing the KNUST@70 cloth so as to match the occasion as Prof. Aboagye Menyeh was born around the time KNUST was established. He wished Prof. Aboagye Menyeh a happy birthday and God’s continual blessings in all his endeavours.
The College Registrar, Mr Kwame Yeboah jr. and other Senior Citizens/Retired Professors on Contract namely; Prof. Francis Boakye, Prof. R.K. Nkum-Second Provost-CoS, Prof. S.K. Danuor- Former Vice-Dean, Prof. (Mrs.) V.P. Dzogbefia – Former Dean, Prof. K. Nsiah -Editor of CoSNEWS Magazine, and others spoke their hearts out about the good works Prof. Aboagye Menyeh has done to the college and meritorious contributions that have benefitted the KNUST community, scientists and thousands of students in Ghana and the world at large. Notably, the College of Science Complex Building (formerly) has been named Aboagye Menyeh Complex.
The CoS-KNUST and the GSA (represented by the Provost-CoS and President of GSA Kumasi Branch) presented a memorable Citation in Honour and Celebration of Prof. Aboagye Menyeh. The citation reads: “Professor Aboagye Menyeh, Our Foundation Provost and Scientific Father & Patron, Congratulations on your 70th Birthday Anniversary. The College of Science (CoS), KNUST and The Ghana Science Association (GSA) appreciate your exemplary leadership and scientific impacts. With Best wishes and every blessings! From CoS-KNUST and GSA -KUMASI BRANCH”.
The presentation was followed with prayer and singing in jubilation in the celebration of the pioneer provost of the college. The present sang and wished the Septuagenarian a happy birthday. In this process, the Provost, College Registrar, the President of GSA Kumasi Branch and the Retired Professors on Contract were invited to cut the birthday cake with Professor Aboagye Menyeh. The birthday cake and drinks were shared to all who were present. The cake and drinks were arranged by Dr. (Mrs.) Linda Ofori who also happened to be the MC for the event.
In conclusion, Prof. Aboagye Menyeh gave a speech expressing his immersed joy and gratitude to the Provost, all senior members who took their time to celebrate him, all members of GSA present, and anyone who participated in the celebration of his 70th birthday anniversary.
