Following an Alumni Activity Grant call by the Danida Fellowship Centre and Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November 2017, a team of Alumni from the KNUST Chapter of DAN-G (DANIDA Alumni Network-Ghana) in partnership with the College of Science, KNUST submitted a proposal for grant support to initiate Science and Technology Seminar series for females in Junior High Schools. The proposal was among six (6) activities awarded the grant support in DFC affiliated networks in Danish partner/ priority countries.

The pilot seminar is being organized for all teachers and female students in the Ayeduase R/C Junior High School and comes off on the 21st – 22nd June, 2018 at KNUST. It is envisaged that the Activity would among other things,

  1. Make Science and Technology “friendly” to a minimum of fifty (50) female Junior High students in Ayeduase and ultimately ignite their interest in scientific and developmental research as well as spur them on to higher heights in education and personal development
  2. Educate a minimum of fifty (50) female students on the various programmes in senior high schools, their links to programmes in higher Institutions of learning and career prospects in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
  3. Build capacity of teachers in the Ayeduase R/C Junior High School to effectively coach and mentor students as well as guide them in the selection of secondary school courses towards reaching their personal academic and career aspirations
  4. Serve as the 'model project' for more career guidance seminars in first cycle institutions
