E-learning African International School on Quantum Science and Technology (ELAIS -QST) 2024/25

The Mathematical and Computational Physics (MCP) unit of the Department of Physics at KNUST is dedicated to disseminating knowledge and equipping students with the necessary skills. In line with the university's mandate, the MCP unit is proud to break new ground in preparation for the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) 2025 with an E-learning lecture and talk series (including lab visitation, mini-projects and others).

This is a 6-month intensive introductory school for African students and professionals to explore the exciting multidisciplinary field of quantum science and technology (QST) in energy, healthcare, materials technology, and other sectors.

Areas to be covered include:

  • Algorithms 
  • Quantum Simulation 
  • Quantum Computing      
  • Quantum Machine Learning   
  • Quantum Information                       
  • Quantum Materials 
  • Quantum Chemistry
  • Quantum Metrology
  • Applications

This school will feature both local and international experts and professionals, providing a comprehensive introductory course (twice or more days in a month) aimed at young African students and professionals who wish to enter the vibrant field of QST for the development of Ghana and Africa.

Eligibility: 

We welcome applications from individuals across Africa with a variety of backgrounds, including physics, mathematics,  computer science, electronics, engineering, chemistry and biology.  

Candidates must have an excellent academic record, and a strong commitment for scientific research. Professionals or employees with strong interest in Quantum Science and Technology are also encouraged to apply.

There are no restrictions of gender. 

How to Apply: 

To register for the school applicants must submit:

  • A Curriculum Vitae, including contact details
  • Scanned copies of your current (Bachelor and Master equivalent) University academic transcripts in English
  • A one-page (max.) letter describing your background, research interests and motivation for attending the school.

Deadline 

The deadline for applications is 30th July, 2024. Selection of applicant will be ongoing till the deadline.
