The Vice Chancellor-elect of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, has toured the College of Science as part of his onboarding activities ahead of assuming office on August 1, 2026.
The familiarisation visit provided Professor Agyare with the opportunity to engage with the College's leadership, faculty members and staff, while gaining first-hand insight into its academic programmes, research activities, laboratory facilities and infrastructure needs.
During the visit, Professor Agyare reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening research, innovation and strategic partnerships, describing them as key pillars of his vision to advance KNUST and move the University from "Excellence to Eminence."
Welcoming the Vice Chancellor-elect, the Provost of the College of Science, Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei, said the visit reflected a commitment to understanding the operational realities of the College before assuming office.
He noted that although the College possesses enormous academic and research potential, inadequate infrastructure and limited access to modern equipment continue to constrain its growth.

"Infrastructural development is very dear to us. We hope that by the time you leave office, the College of Science will have benefited significantly," the Provost said.
Responding, Professor Agyare assured faculty members of his commitment to supporting the College's development, stating that the University's strategic priorities would place emphasis on mobilising resources and forging partnerships to strengthen teaching, learning and research.
"I assure you that we will give our very best. We will apply appropriate strategies to attract support from different sources and work together towards achieving our shared goals," he said.
Professor Agyare also outlined his vision for the University, calling on faculty and staff to support efforts to move KNUST "from Excellence to Eminence."
He said achieving that vision would require stronger strategic partnerships, cutting-edge research, innovation, effective resource mobilisation and collaboration across the University's colleges and external stakeholders.

As part of the visit, Professor Agyare toured several teaching and research facilities within the College, including the Huawei Laboratory, the College's emerging computer laboratory, Biochemistry laboratories, Chemistry laboratories, Theoretical and Applied Biology laboratories, the Environmental Science Laboratory, the Human Genetics and Genomics (HuGENE) Laboratory, the Collegeβs Office of Grant and Research among other facilities.
The tour enabled the Vice-Chancellor-elect to interact with researchers and faculty members, observe ongoing scientific work and gain a better appreciation of the College's research strengths, infrastructure gaps and future development priorities.
The familiarization visits forms part of Professor Agyare's broader engagement with academic units across the University ahead of the commencement of his tenure as Vice-Chancellor on August 1, 2026.
