










FOOD PROCESSING UNIT
The Food Processing Unit (FPU) of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), serves as the Department’s practical training, innovation, and commercial food production hub. Established to bridge the gap between classroom instruction, research, and industry practice, the Unit provides students with hands-on experience in food processing, product development, quality assurance, food safety, and entrepreneurship. As part of its commitment to innovation and service delivery, the Food Processing Unit has recently expanded its operations to include convenient breakfast and lunch services for the KNUST community and the general public. The breakfast menu features nutritious energy-booster packs comprising oats, tom brown, Hausa koko, tea, chocolate beverages, pastries, bread, eggs, and other complementary options. For lunch, customers can enjoy a variety of wholesome meals including jollof rice, fried rice, plain rice, and the Unit’s signature Eminence Rice, served with assorted protein options and fresh fruit The Food Processing Unit continues to advance food innovation, experiential learning, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, contributing significantly to the development of Ghana’s agri-food sector.
