Prof. Joseph Abeiku Ackora-Prah was appointed as a Lecturer in 2000 and was the Vice-Dean of Faculty of Physical and Computational Sciences for two (2) terms from 1st January 2022 to 31st October 2023. Prior to his being appointed as the Vice-Dean, he was the head of Department of Mathematics from August 1, 2020, to 31st December 2021. He obtained his first and second degrees in Mathematics, in the year 1991, 1999 respectively, from the Department of Mathematics, KNUST. He did all his PhD research works in Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU), USA and finally graduated at KNUST in 2013. He served as a Visting Scholar at ECSU between June 2010 and December 2012.
He has served as Chairman and Member on several committees and boards including the KNUST Academic Board (Non-Professorial Member), KNUST Executive Committee (Non-Professorial Member representing the Academic Board), College of Science Representative on University Undergraduate Admissions Committee member for two (2) terms ( August 2020 to date), Member of the Republic Hall Council for two (2) terms (from 2019 to 2023), He was the Faculty Representative to the College of Science Board, Member of the College of Science Syllabus Review Committee, the Director of Programs of National Institute for Mathematical Science (NIMS) from August 1, 2020, to 31st December 2021, member of the College of Science Syllabus Review Committee, member of the College of Science Harmonization Committee, member of the Pre-Engineering Programme for the ACE GTTI/KNUST program in the Gambia. He was the Coordinator for Mathematics, Actuarial Science and Statistics programs from 2013 to 2015 in the Mathematics Department at the Institute of Distance Learning, KNUST, and other equally important boards and committees.
He is an External Examiner/Assessor to the University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Ghana (UG), University for Development Studies (UDS), AAMUSTED and some of the Technical Universities in Ghana. He is a moderator for several University Colleges affiliated to KNUST.
He has successfully supervised several PhD and MPhil students who completed their programs in Applied Mathematics and is still supervising several of them which are ongoing.
